This historical venue which is under UNESCO has been around for centuries and is an exceptional location.
Boasting a traditional and a contemporary look with 46 Rooms and at any point you see the sun setting and rising. You know and feel that you are secluded but with it’s hospitality and passion for the guest you truly feel you are at a resort.
Thermal waters ... lavender growing everywhere ... vineyards spreading out as far as your eyes can reach ... it is definitely a romantic getaway but can also serve as a friends getaway ...
Definitely coming back
This hotel is gorgeous! It’s views are beyond spectacular. Everywhere you look is absolutely stunning, it’s inspiring, it’s peaceful, it’s enchanting, it’s mesmerizing, it fills you with gratitud and happiness! It’s perfect for a writer to get inspiration! It’s an artists muse! I loved every inch of it- The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated, my favorite part was the bed sheets and the bathroom as it has a tub where you can bathe with the thermal water. The indoor/outdoor thermal pools... amazing! The outdoor gym? Fabulous! The restaurants offer exquisite food... its Brunello wine? To die for... I loved everything about my experience there and completely recommend it a billion percent
My husband and I just stayed at the Castello di Velona for a few days. What a spectacular place to be! The hotel itself is especially beautiful and Tuscan views can’t be beat. The service is phenomenal, and the entire staff from the valet up through the general manager are kind, polite, friendly and professional. They really go all out to make sure you are happy and content. The rooms are well-appointed. We stayed in a castle room but one day hope to splurge on the new World Heritage UNESCO rooms with in-room thermal spas. Don’t miss the thermal pools and spa area. And be sure to catch the sunset. Two things are a bit of a drawback— only one very expensive restaurant open on property right now and It has a limited menu. They do, however, go out of their way to try to accommodate your food desires and dietary restrictions. The other drawback is you are about 20 minutes fro the small town of Montalcino itself. We would totally stay at this property again
Our 2 night stay was truly amazing. The staff were exceptionally attentive with no request being too much regardless of time of day (or night). We were 4 couple celebrating and despite other guests staying at the hotel we get that it was our “home” during our stay. The chateau is beautiful and amenities outstanding. We would love to go back again
Castello de Velona was truly a remarkable experience. From the moment we drove through the grand gates, to the moment we checked out - everything was absolute perfection. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and were treated like royalty.
Our room was absolutely SPECTACULAR. We were upgraded to a UNESCO sunset room. We didn’t want to leave!! The bathroom was like a spa and taking a shower had never been so enjoyable. On our next trip to Tuscany we will definitely be back here.
Do not hesitate or get swayed by the complaints of this place being expensive... it’s worth every penny if you want luxury and pampering. Stay here!!!!
We have been here several times before. We love it.
This is a unique hotel spa that is isolated and perched on top of a hill overlooking historic UNESCO views. Our UNESCO suite is large and private with a living area, king bed, double sink, shower and separate tub with spa water. Private patio overlooking gorgeous sunsets.
The service staff, concierge and manager make every effort to keep us happy. That’s why we keep returning.
The food at dinner is delicious albeit a bit high priced and breakfast includes a huge variety of everything you could imagine. The chef will accommodate your requests as well. The sommelier is passionate, friendly and approachable and always very helpful in offering suggestions.
This year, we went to two close by (5 minute drive) highly acclaimed wineries that make Brunello. The wine and olive oil made at Castello di Velona is also excellent.
We will likely be back again next year.

Castello di Velona is truly exceptional in every way! The views are spectacular, the accommodations delightful, and the staff are so welcoming and hospitable. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning soon.
Castello di Velona was incredible - the staff, the rooms, the views, the lobby, the pool - it far exceeded any of our expectations! Highly recommend - only sorry that we could not stay longer.
We had a wonderful visit and the staff was exceptional
I really enjoyed the personal attention. Would definitely like to come back, and would also recommend to friends/family who might be staying in the area.
A luxurious stay in a castle. The castle is upscale and our room was spacious. A beautiful view of the Tuscan hillside from every direction. The hotel staff was so accommodating and attentive in every way. The breakfast buffet was really sumptuous and so varied that I had a tough time deciding what to eat. We will definitely be back.
The hotel and staff were lovely.
My husband and I spent 3 nights at Castello di Velona. From the moment we checked in we knew this was going to be special. We had the terrace suite - which features a private patio with a thermal hot tub and views that were simply incredible. The hotel is perched on the top of a hill, and is surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. We could watch both the sunrise and sunset from the hot tub, and those images are the first that come to mind whenever I think about our trip to Italy. Food is very good - I had read previous reviews that were a bit mixed but our meals were excellent, as was the wine. Yes it is pricey - but no more than a nice dinner in NYC. And speaking of wine, we did the wine and cheese tasting which was absolutely the highlight of our stay. Our sommelier was both knowledgeable and entertaining - clearly she loved what she does! We did the spa one day - steam room, sauna, scented showers, and a massage. All high end and such a treat after 4 days of running around being busy tourists. And the outdoor pools are quite nice as well. There is not much to do nearby if you don't have a car. One day we walked about a 1.5 miles to a small nearby town for lunch, just for a change of pace, and found a casual restaurant where the food was more reasonably priced but still quite good. You can arrange for car service into Montalcino but it was fairly expensive and we were so comfortable that we decided to just stay put and relax. Overall we had a lovely stay and will remember our time there fondly. Thank you to the staff for taking such good care of us!
Amazing location in very good condition and friendly staff!
We enjoyed two nights in April surrounded by glorious views, luxurious accommodations, delicious meals and wine, warm and friendly atmosphere, and healing mineral pools. The bed was so comfortable and the linens were divine. The staff were exceptional and welcoming. I plan to return.
Just returned from a lovely stay in a sunset room at Castello di Velona. The hotel is stunning, on a hill top overlooking the hills of Montalcino, and the castle has been restored with historical integrity with modern amenities and beautiful rooms, and public spaces. We ate at the hotel two nights and the food was fantastic as well as their own Brunello wine and local olive oil produced at the winery. The General Manager was wonderful and very accessible during our stay, as well as the staff who were very attentive, while remaining discreet - we never saw a housekeeping cart or staff in the hallways once, but our rooms were impeccably kept. The thermal spas are a wonderful way to refresh after touring the area during the day. The views are amazing from everywhere in the hotel - you feel as if you are staying in a friend's luxury home!
